" My Best Friend's Bowl "

Keeping Every Bowl Full

H20 Kids at the Westerly

On Monday August 5th, the residents of The Westerly  Apartments enjoyed the 6 students and their counselor who joined them in a “Mass Bagging” event for My Best Friend’s Bowl. The students and the residents weighed dog and cat food, packaged and labeled 640 pounds total. It was quite an undertaking and they accomplished the job in less than 2 hours and with little or no spillage!

We’d like to thank Sarah,  the H20 counselor and the kids, who will be entering 6th grade this fall around Lakewood: Emily, Maddy, Esther, Joey, Kyle and Sean for helping us out with this project. They all said they would like to do it again and we’re sure the residents would love to have them again. Thanks to out to Jackie, Aileen, Brenda, Irene and Johnnie from the Westerly for helping out and for hosting us.

Lakewood Catholic Academy Fundraiser

On Thursday, May 23rd, the students of LCA held a fundraiser for My Best Friend’s Bowl. The student council and their advisor Mr. Tabar came up with the idea of “Dress Like Your Favorite Animal Day” Students paid $2.00 to dress up for the day and raised $211.60 for us. This will help us purchase 1,000 pounds of dog or cat food and feed 100 dogs or 263 cats!

Mr. Tabar also took some photos of the students. We think they had a great time and we KNOW they did a great jobfor us. Thanks so much kids and Mr. Tabar! Click the photos for a larger view.

ASPCA Grant Approved!!

My Best Friend’s Bowl is so excited to announce we have received a $1600.00 grant from the ASPCA to purchase food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We will be taking a road trip soon. This will purchase 8000lbs of food and feed hundreds of pets in need.

Included in our grant are funds for the Waterloo Alley Cat Project in the Collinwood neighborhood on the east side. We were paired when we both applied for funding and it was recognized that we have a resource that could help them! The group feeds and tends to stray or feral cats, trapping them to have them neutered or spayed and releasing them. We will be picking up 2,000 of cat food to drop to them soon.

Thank you ASPCA, we are very thankful for your generosity and grateful that you recognize all our hard work that helps our community and beyond!

Morgan’s Pet Food Collection

Last Wednesday I had a call from Pet’s General Store asking me to talk to a woman dropping off donations. Her daughter Morgan, a third grader in Westlake, had a class project: Do good for a community group. She went online, found My Best Friend’s Bowl and chose us as the receipient of all the pet food she collected! She made flyers and distributed them to her neighbors and the response was amazing. I don’t have a final count as they have more that was dropped off after they delivered to Pet’s General, but I’m positive it will be over 100lbs. For someone so young to do the research and all the footwork just amazes me and we are so appreciative of her hard work. Her parents must be so proud to have such a caring young daughter. Thank you Morgan, you are now our newest “Bowl Girl! THANK YOU!!! Here she is with her “Best Friend” and her donations! Remarkable young lady!
